Knives and pangas seized as police arrest 7 suspected robbers in Kirinyaga

A major crackdown in Kutus town, saw police from Kirinyaga East and Mwea East sub-counties arrest seven suspected gang members hiding in the Maisha Kamili area, where housebreaking tools, knives and pangas were seized.

The suspects were smoked out on September 12, 2025 and placed in custody for processing before arraignment in court to face relevant charges.

At the same time the National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such operations to dismantle criminal gangs and safeguard communities.

“The NPS further urges the public to continue sharing actionable intelligence, noting that collaboration between security agencies and the public remains key to winning the fight against crime,” read part of the police report.

The arrest comes a few days after a well-coordinated operation by the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), supported by the DCI Headquarters Operations Team led to the arrest of eight suspects in Mtito Andei, Makueni County.

In a statement on September 2, 2025, the DCI disclosed that the suspects are believed to be part of a violent robbery syndicate that has been terrorizing several regions across the country.

For months, the gang had been on detectives’ radar, linked to a string of violent attacks and burglaries in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa.

Their operations left behind a trail of loss and fear, with businesses suffering significant financial damage.

In a similar incident, DCI detectives on June 1, 2025 apprehended four notorious criminals who had been tormenting residents of Nairobi’s Kibera area.

The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Kibera Police Station.

According to DCI reports, the gang were flushed out of their hideout in the Line Saba area following a well-coordinated operation.
