A programme has been launched to offer 100% free scholarships to over 4000 people with disabilities in Kenya at a cost of Ksh 480 million (3,145,00 million Euro) over the next 5 years.
The programme was initiated by Nominated Senator Crystal Asige through her foundation in partnership with the European Business Institute of Luxembourg led by Prof. James Mulli.
This was made possible by Principal Secretary (PS) for Diaspora Roseline Njogu who reached out into the diaspora and linked Prof. Dr. Mulli to the Crystal Asige Foundation.
According to Asige, the initiative seeks to educate PWDs in the fields of Robotics; Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology, Cybersecurity and similar support industries.
In a statement, the nominated senator who represents PWDs in the Senate said she was glad to see their successful applicants onboarded to the Crystal Asige Foundation and European Business institute of Luxembourg Scholarships.
She said the successful applicants living with disabilities underwent orientation and began classes on September 15th 2025.
“Since launching the programme, 4000 people with disabilities applied across Kenya and 850 were shortlisted to join this diverse class, a cohort ready to inspire and make us proud. Big things lie ahead for our scholars. Watch this space for their stories. Inclusion in Kenya is no longer an Option. #VIP,” said the Nominated Senator in a post on her Facebook page.
Dr James Mulli who is President of the European Business Institute of Luxembourg with an enrollment of 28,000 students majority Kenyans said their aim is to train people with disability and impact their lives.
In an interview, he said their multi-million scholarship program for the PWDs shall also ensure the beneficiaries get jobs.
“Job placement is an important part of this process as we are already placing our current graduates in employment,” he said.
Mulli said if they can secure additional funding, to be given directly to nominated Senator Crystal Asige through her foundation, they can enroll the additional 4000 plus candidates that have registered their interest for training.
“By fostering personal independence and self-worth, EBU will simultaneously have PWDs strengthening the nation by fostering innovation, and supporting a more resilient, stable, and productive society,” he said.
Pauline Ogallo, a beneficiary, thanked Crystal Asige foundation and European Business Institute of Luxembourg for awarding her the life changing scholarship opportunity.
“As a person with disability this scholarship is not just a financial support- it is a powerful reminder that inclusion and equal access to education can transform lives. I look forward to making the most out of this opportunity and giving back to the community in future,” she said.
She also hailed the partners for believing in them and for championing for education and empowerment for people with disabilities.
Mulli said he founded the institution about 6 years ago and to date they have over 28,000 students who have enrolled, with the majority of them over 50% are from Kenya.
“Our business model approach is to work with partners and to offer scholarships, we are in the country of Luxembourg, which has the highest GDP per capita in the world, and I pause for effect because we can take advantage, and we have taken incredible advantage of that. And this is where we have seen the numbers flourish in terms of enrollment and impact. Thanks to Principal Secretary (PS) for Diaspora Roseline Njogu for reaching us in the diaspora, and having faith in us, because more is yet to come,” said Mulli.
He said their mission is to include those who are disadvantaged and have challenges, through the PS’s office in Kenya.
“We’ve made some headway. In this respect. We do have students who are visually impaired, who have tried our program, and this is something that we’re quite excited about,” he said.
