Laikipia University students paralyze transport in protest over the sudden death of a first-year media student

Laikipia University students took to streets to protest the sudden death of a first-year media student, while hiking in Subukia Falls, which they attributed to the delayed response of the University’s ambulance services.

This unrest caused a significant disruption along the busy Nyahururu-Nakuru Highway, motorist forced to use other routes as students expressed their frustration over the tragic incident involving one of their own, Hllary Vulimu.

According to the eyewitnesses who were with him during that incident, Hillary slipped and the rock fall hitting him on his head and he started to bleed heavily and they made urgent attempts to seek help from the University’s Ambulance Service however they allege that they were told that the ambulance was unavailable as it was Holiday.

They then desperately begged a bobaboda rider to rush him to a nearby dispensary – Micheal Nursing Home in Subukia town- for first aid treatment after it was clear that the university ambulance was not available.

While at the Dispensary, his condition worsened and needed more specialized care and he was referred to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital where he succumbed while receiving treatment.

Outraged by the incident, students’ criticized the university administration for ignoring their grievances and described this as part of the recurring issue within the institution.

The students are now demanding a complete overhaul of the university’s management citing incompetence and an inability to address critical matters affecting the student.

However in response to negligence allegations, the University released an official statement asserting that it had acted promptly by coordinating with Michael Nursing Home to arrange for an ambulance transfer to Nyahururu.

The statement also expressed regret over Hillary’s passing and clarified that the Dean Of Students had already visited the hospital to oversee necessary arrangements.

The university further stated that it had contacted Hillary’s family to inform them of the incident and pledged full support during this difficult time.
