Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Alice Wahome, today led staff from the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning in planting 10,000 trees in Gathiuru, Nyeri County.
CS Wahome noted that Nyeri is leading in both forest and tree cover in the country, at 40.89 percent and 45.17 percent respectively.
Despite these high percentages, the CS challenged the community to support the government’s efforts by embracing a tree-planting culture.
“Today, we have planted 10,000 seedlings. In total, we have planted 219,400 seedlings in Nyeri County, and we are determined to contribute to the 15 billion trees target by the year 2032,” said CS Wahome.
Also present were Nyeri County Commissioner Ronald Mwiwawi, County Forest Conservator Esther Mugo, Murang’a nominated MCA Diana Muthoni, among others.
The CS was accompanied by Lands and Physical Planning Secretary Administration Mr. Mohamed Maalim, Director of Land Administration, Gordon Ochieng, National Director of Physical Planning Dr. Peris Mangira, ICT Director Leonard Maritim, Director of KISM Jesse Waithaka, and other senior officials from the department.
