The body of Makueni County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Dr. Sonia Nzilani was transferred to the Montezumma Monalisa Funeral Home in Machakos on November 22, 2025 in the evening. 

Dr. Nzilani was found dead on Saturday November 22, 2025 in the morning at her home, sending shockwaves across Makueni County and the nation at large. 

The remains of the late Dr. Sonia Nzilani arrived at the Montezumma Monalisa Funeral Home in Machakos accompanied by close family members, colleagues from both Makueni and Machakos counties, and senior county officials. 

The somber procession reflected the deep sense of loss felt by those who worked closely with her.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. led leaders in eulogising the late trade minister, describing her as a dedicated and hardworking public servant who served both the county and the nation with commitment and integrity.

He noted that Dr. Nzilani’s death is a major blow to the county government and the people she worked tirelessly for. The governor added that more updates will be provided to the public as authorities continue to gather information surrounding her sudden passing.

Deputy governors from both Makueni and Machakos were also present, offering condolences to the bereaved family and acknowledging Dr. Nzilani’s contribution to regional trade development. Colleagues described her as a visionary leader, known for her passion for economic empowerment and her unwavering dedication to public service.
