Leaders warn against Illicit brews and cattle theft in Nyandarua

Leaders in Nyandarua County have issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the production, sale, and distribution of illicit brews, declaring that their time is up.

Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2025, Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa emphasized that law enforcement officers will intensify efforts to stamp out the vice..

He also put on notice those engaging in cattle theft and illegal night-time slaughtering, directing chiefs and village elders to heighten surveillance and strengthen local intelligence systems to end the menace.

In addition to security matters, the County Commissioner commended the ongoing development projects across Nyandarua, including the construction of roads, markets, and other key infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.

At the same time, Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Moses Badilisha highlighted the progress of the University of Nyandarua, whose admissions are currently in top gear.

The institution of higher learning is set to open its doors in Nyandarua in September 2025. Once operational, it will be the first university in the county.

The governor noted that the university project is a partnership with the University of Nairobi, which will play a leading role in its establishment and academic programming.

On climate change mitigation, Governor Badilisha reported strong progress in fruit tree farming initiatives, particularly with apples and Hass avocados.

He encouraged local farmers to diversify their agricultural practices, noting that hundreds of acres are already under fruit cultivation.

These efforts are not only boosting farmers’ incomes but also enhancing food security, improving nutrition, and helping combat the effects of climate change.
