A farmer in Oloyiankalani, Ildamat Ward in Kajiado Central is counting losses after a leopard attacked his livestock on Wednesday, February 25 night, killing 25 sheep.
The farmer estimates the loss at more than KSh375,000, saying the sheep were his main source of livelihood.
He added that the livestock helped him pay school fees for his children in secondary schools and universities.
Confirming the incident, the area chief, Harrison Ole Mpaayo, urged the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to act swiftly and compensate the farmer.
He said this would help the farmer support his family and also address the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the area.
KWS officers visited the scene, assessed the damage, and assured the farmer that the matter would be taken seriously and that he would be compensated.
