Lionesses to begin their Rugby Africa Women’s 7s campaign against Côte d’Ivoire

Kenya’s national women’s rugby sevens team, the Lionesses, will kick off their 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens campaign against Côte d’Ivoire when the tournament gets underway on 15th and 16th November at the RFUEA Grounds, Nairobi.

The Kenya Rugby Union will host the continental showpiece, which brings together 12 teams Tunisia, Egypt, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Madagascar, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa for two days of thrilling action.

Fresh from their stunning triumph at the 26th edition of the Safari 7s, the Lionesses head into the tournament in high spirits as they aim to maintain their winning momentum and reclaim continental glory on home soil.

The Kenyan side, who finished runners-up at last year’s edition in Ghana after falling 17–10 to South Africa in the final, will be eager to go one better this time.

Kenya has been drawn in Pool B alongside Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, while defending champions and record 12-time winners South Africa headline Pool A with Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

Uganda, who finished second at the recent Safari 7s, lead Pool C with Zambia and Burkina Faso, as Madagascar, Tunisia, and Egypt complete Pool D.

The day one fixtures will begin at 9:00 AM EAT, with Tunisia facing Egypt in the opener Kenya’s first match will be against Côte d’Ivoire at 12:44 PM and their second against Ghana at 4:06 PM.

Kenya will be looking to win their second-ever continental title, having last lifted the trophy in 2018 in Gaborone, Botswana.

Since the tournament’s inception in 2006, only three nations have claimed the crown South Africa (12 titles), Tunisia (2012), and Kenya (2018).
