Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has predicted a mass return of politicians who previously abandoned President William Ruto, saying many have already realised the opposition has little to offer the country.

Speaking in Teso South during a condolence visit to the family of Mzee Bramwel Eshepet, father to Engineer Sidai, Governor Lusaka said the political tide was steadily turning in favour of the Head of State.

“Those who ran away are now beginning to find their way back. I can assure you that by August, almost everyone will be back home,” Lusaka said.

The governor, who also serves as the Western Kenya coordinator for President Ruto’s re-election campaign, noted that despite facing initial challenges in office, the President had demonstrated resilience by stabilising the economy and delivering on key election pledges.

He argued that many politicians were rethinking their positions after realising that aligning with the national government accelerates development at the grassroots.

“Despite devolution, a lot of development resources are still controlled by the national government. We are still a third-world country, and nobody should cheat you that simply paying taxes guarantees automatic development in your region. Your relationship with the powers that be really matters,” Lusaka said.

Lusaka dismissed opposition efforts to unseat President Ruto, saying they lacked credibility and fresh ideas. He further took a swipe at opposition leaders, noting that many of them were older than the President and had previously been given opportunities to lead.

According to the Bungoma governor, President Ruto’s growing record of delivery was steadily winning back confidence, making his leadership increasingly attractive to leaders who had earlier distanced themselves from his administration.
