Political tension continues to rise in Machakos County as Speaker Anne Kiusya returns to the High Court to stop nine suspended MCAs from resuming their duties at the County Assembly.
The MCAs were suspended for 28 sittings after being accused of indiscipline and violating Assembly rules. However, the court issued temporary orders allowing them to return—something the Speaker strongly opposes.
Through her lawyer, Danstan Omari, Speaker Kiusya told the court that the MCAs withheld crucial information when filing their case, which led to an unfair ruling. She is now asking the court to revoke the orders and uphold the suspensions.
Those suspended include key leaders such as Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka, Deputy Speaker Stephen Nzue Mwanthi, former Minority Leader Judas Mbili Ndawa, and MCAs Felix Ngui, Raphael Nzau, Charles Mbuva, Phoebe Koki, Anna Ndilo, and Catherine Kyee.
Meanwhile, the matter has sparked fresh political clashes. Kinanie/Mathatani MCA Francis Kavyu has criticised Governor Wavinya Ndeti for allegedly threatening to lead residents in forcibly removing the Speaker—a statement she reportedly made at a public event.
Kavyu warned that such remarks could incite public unrest and violate the law.
Lawyer Omari also issued a strong response, saying that if the Governor believes she has the Assembly’s support, she should follow due process and initiate a formal impeachment instead of making threats.
The case is now back in court, and its outcome could significantly shape the future of leadership in the Machakos County Assembly. All eyes are on the legal process as the political drama continues to unfold.
