A 56-year-old man in Machakos County has been arraigned in court for allegedly practicing witchcraft.
Mumo Thiwa was arraigned following his arrest, when he was found in possession of different witchcraft paraphernalia including; human hair, skin, nails, photographs of residents and other cult-like items.
Machakos Sub-County DCIO Nzioka Singi told this reporter that Mumo was arrested in the middle of performing rituals, with authorities linking him to an investigation into the murder of a woman in Machakos Town.
“We were investigating the murder of Esther Katongo in Kathiani when we came across a man involved in witchcraft. That is when we started investigating an alleged poisoning case where another man, Erick Makau, was carrying half a kilogram of tobacco to put in a tank containing drinking water,” Singi said.
“He was cornered by the family and forced to reveal his actions, and that is when he named a few people, among them Mumo Nthiwa. Now we are investigating Nthiwa to know if he has a hand in the murder.”
Mumo, Nzioka says, has confessed to authorities that he is indeed a witch-doctor, and that he has been practicing for a long time.
