A man is in police custody after he was found with 43 rolls and two kilograms of unprocessed bhang in a Thursday morning crackdown in Gacharage, Kiambaa, Kiambu County.
The successful raid was conducted by officers from the Ruaka Police Post following a public tip-off.
“Thanks to the vigilance of our citizens, we were able to act swiftly and seize the drugs before they hit the streets,” the National Police Service said in a statement.
The suspect is set to be arraigned in court today, Friday, May 30.
This arrest is part of a growing wave of drug-related crackdowns across the country. On April 17, Nairobi police arrested two men in Karen with 40 kilograms of bhang, 203 rolls of cannabis, 100 packets of razzlers, Sh1,400 in cash and a rolling flag. The suspects’ motorcycle, believed to have been used for trafficking, was also impounded.
In Machakos County, NACADA officers recently arrested two more suspects and recovered 87 sticks of bhang, 20 drug-laced brooms and various paraphernalia after another tip-off.
Police and anti-drug agencies have praised the public’s role in these busts and are urging continued cooperation.
“Community intelligence is proving vital in our fight against narcotics. We urge more Kenyans to report any suspicious activity,” police added.
The recent crackdowns signal an intensified national effort to curb drug trafficking and protect communities from the growing threat of substance abuse.
