A 50 year old man from Gathiriga village in Mirangine subcounty, Olkalou Constituency in Nyandarua County who went missing 9 days ago has been found brutally murdered and his body dumped in the nearby pit latrine.
According to his family, Simon Muteru Mutitu, a father of three was last seen alive on January 3, 2026 at his brother’s house where he was taking supper and later excused himself and left.
The family explains that something unusual happened the following day when they saw his door locked from outside the whole day with no signs of him inside.
His brother, John Mureria Mutitu, said his absence prompted them to try to find out what was happening.
To their shock, they found his house empty and the family started asking around, calling his phone number and reaching out to his friends but all their efforts were in vain.
After 72hrs elapsed with no signs of him, the family reported his disappearance to the DCI offices in Mirangine.
The officers launched investigations immediately and after several days of searching, Muteru’s mutilated body was discovered on 9th January discarded in an abandoned pit latrine located on one of his family’s farms by a friend who had come to engage him for casual work.
According to DCI, his body might have been deliberately placed there after death in attempt to conceal the crime
A post-mortem examination which was conducted on 13th January at PNN Funeral Home in Nakuru however showed no visible signs of physical torture or trauma.
Upon further examination by medical examiners, it was established that his liver was extremely intoxicated indicating that the deceased might have been exposed to a toxic substance prior to his sudden death
The brutal murder has since sent panic and anger among the community members who are now calling for swift justice and fast-tracking of investigations.
A DCI officer privy to the matter said that detectives have since launched a probe into the murder.
