Parklands detectives have arrested a man who had been masquerading as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier and fleecing unsuspecting youth through a bogus recruitment scheme.
The suspect, Joshua Mutui Muimi, is said to have promoted himself from civilian to “brigadier” and used the fake rank to lure desperate recruits with promises of admission to the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret.
According to investigators, Muimi had been issuing counterfeit recruitment letters and collecting money from victims, exploiting their hopes of joining the disciplined forces.
Detectives, acting on intelligence, pounced on him inside his rented apartment in Kilimani, where he was found dressed head-to-toe in full Kenya Air Force uniform.
A search of the house revealed the extent of the fraud. Officers recovered several documents bearing the Ministry of Defence logo, including six fake admission letters all carrying the same serial number, seven fingerprint forms, a Yilmaz Defence Industry ammunition manufacturing manual, and other suspicious materials believed to have been used in the scheme. Police say the items point to a well-coordinated operation targeting desperate job seekers.
Muimi was arrested and is currently in custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of his arraignment.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned the public to remain alert and avoid falling for shortcuts in security sector recruitment, emphasizing that genuine KDF enlistment is free, fair and transparent.
