Police have launched investigations after a 26-year-old man hacked his father to death for allegedly failing to provide medicine for his sick mother in Emanyasa village, Kakamega County.
The tragic incident occurred when a 26-year-old man hacked and killed his 66-year-old father, identified as Calisto Osundwa, following a confrontation over alleged failure to offer medication to his sick mother.
According to the police, Osundwa and the suspect, who was his son, had argued on why his wife, who is the mother of the suspect, had not taken her prescribed medicine.
The mother has been sick for several days.
Witnesses said Osundwa told the son he had misplaced the patient’s medicine, which angered him in the July 20, 2025 incident.
The assailant picked up a panga and wooden stick, which he used to hack the father in the head, killing him, police reported.
He escaped the scene immediately after committing the crime.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the deceased man screamed for help, with the ailing mother also unable to help.
However, neighbours intervened and rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and burial arrangements.
Police officers visited the crime scene as the hunt for the suspect continued.
