Man released on KSh20,000 cash bail for threatening to kill Senator Hezena Lemaletian

A Nairobi man has been charged at the Milimani Law Courts for allegedly threatening to kill nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian through WhatsApp messages sent on January 27, 2026.

The suspect, identified as Alex Anyolo Kikuyu, has strongly denied the allegations, claiming he has no involvement in Samburu County politics.

“I did not threaten to kill the nominated Senator. I have no interest in Samburu County politics. I am concerned about Kakamega County politics, where I come from,” Anyolo told the court during his appearance on Monday.

The suspect was arrested last week following a report filed by Senator Lemaletian with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Muthaiga, Nairobi.

The court heard that the senator received a series of death threats on her WhatsApp while working at her Bunge Towers office.

The threats prompted her to seek police intervention, leading to the DCI’s investigation and subsequent arrest of Anyolo.

Detective Ndung’u, who presented the suspect in court, requested that Anyolo be detained at Muthaiga Police Station for five days to allow cybercrime analysts to conduct forensic analysis on Safaricom SIM cards, Airtel lines and other electronic devices recovered from the suspect.

However, Anyolo objected to the detention request, insisting he has a permanent residence.

“I do not reside in a vehicle the way a bird resides in a nest. I am a married with two children. I live in Buruburu, Nairobi. I am not a wanderer,” he argued before the court.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at Milimani Law Courts agreed with the suspect’s argument, noting that Anyolo had a fixed place of residence and that police could conduct the necessary forensic analysis without keeping him in custody.

The magistrate subsequently released Anyolo on a cash bail of KSh 20,000.

The case will be mentioned again in two weeks for further directions as investigations continue.
