A Kisumu court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for defiling a 4-year-old child in Kisumu. The perpetrator was charged with defilement contrary to Section 8 (1) (2) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

The court heard that the crime occurred on January 6, 2025, at Sega area in Kisumu Central within Kisumu County.

The accused was also charged with an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child under Section 11 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act.

The prosecution, represented by Newton Ochieng, presented evidence and testimonies from five witnesses, which outlined the details of the crime.

The evidence revealed that on the day of January 6, 2025 at around 1 pm, the complainant was asked by the accused to follow him into his house. Upon her arrival, he forced her to remove her undergarments and went on to sexually assault her.

In delivering its judgement, the trial court concluded that the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused committed defilement, as defined in Section 8 (1)(2) of the Sexual Offences Act, and he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
