Man strangles 24-year-old lover to death, attempts to save her by rushing her to hospital

Shock and grief has engulfed a village in Ol’ Joro Orok, Nyandarua County, after a 24-year-old woman was brutally murdered allegedly by her lover.

Angela Muthoni was reportedly strangled to death by his boyfriend, Alex Ndung’u, on Wednesday, July 17 night at 64 Estate in Gatimu Ward, following a disagreement.

After committing the crime, police say that Ndung’u was assisted by four people to take carry the body to a hired tuk-tuk, and rushed her to a local dispensary. Upon seeing her dire condition, doctors at the facility referred her to Nyahururu Referral Hospital, where doctors said she had died a couple of hours ago.

According to family members from Endarasha village in Nyeri County, they were informed of Muthoni’s death through a phone call.

The deceased’s aunt, Jane Maina, stated that police officers based at Ol’ Joro Orok Police Station advised them to conduct a postmortem.

The autopsty report has revealed that Muthoni died as a result of strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head. The report also revealed that she had significant bruises on her face.

Her bereaved mother, Beatrice Njoki, voiced her grief and appealed for justice, describing her daughter as a vivacious and promising young woman whose life was brutally cut short.

Maina further urged the government to take strong action against rising cases of femicide in Kenya. She also called on women representatives to lead awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of intimate partner violence.

Kenya has seen an alarming increase in femicide instances in recent years. Many women have been killed by intimate partners or spouses, typically as a result of unresolved arguments.

Instead of turning to violence, people in difficult relationships are being encouraged to seek counseling, support, or even separation or divorce.

Authorities and civil society organizations are being urged to increase their efforts to educate the public about gender-based violence, improve access to mental health treatments, and tighten legislation that protects women and ensures justice for victims.

As investigations continue, Muthoni’s family and many Kenyans are demanding accountability and justice for another innocent life lost to femicide.
