Manchester City kickstart Club World Cup campaign with dominant win over Wydad AC

Manchester City have opened their FIFA Club World Cup Group G campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Moroccan side Wydad AC, showcasing their attacking prowess in a sweltering Philadelphia encounter.

First-half goals from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku sealed the win, providing a strong start for the Premier League champions.

Foden wasted no time making his mark, pouncing on a spilled Savinho cross in just the second minute to give City the early lead.

The English international demonstrated his predatory instincts, reacting quickest to Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid’s parry.

The dominance continued, and just before halftime, Jeremy Doku doubled City’s advantage. The Belgian winger showed excellent anticipation, arriving at the far post to meet a Foden corner and tap home, giving City a commanding lead going into the break.

While Wydad did create a moment of concern, notably a smart save by Ederson to deny Cassius Mailula, City were largely in control. Further opportunities for Doku and Erling Haaland were thwarted by Benabid, who made several commendable stops.

A late red card for Rico Lewis, which appeared to be a harsh decision, provided a minor twist in the tale, but it did little to derail City’s momentum.
