Maraga assures transparent citizens-funded campaigns ahead of his 2027 presidential bid

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has reiterated his commitment to a transparent and accountable presidential campaign as he eyes the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV on July 15, 2025, Maraga revealed that he will rely on public contributions alongside his limited financial input to fund his campaigns.

“We are going to appeal to Kenyans to contribute to our campaign,” he said. “I will put in about KSh1 million to KSh 2 million, I don’t have much money.”

Despite his modest financial means, Maraga expressed confidence that his supporters will come through for him. “There will be no funding gaps,” he said. “I’ve been given assurance by people who believe in me, and they will fully come to my rescue.”

To ensure openness in the use of campaign resources, Maraga pledged to publicly declare the full campaign budget once it is finalized. He also committed to disclosing how and where the funds will be spent.

“I will announce my budget publicly once it’s fully set, including how and where the funds will be channeled,” he said.

He further assured the public that any excess funds collected during the campaign will be redirected to benefit the public. “We are in fact hoping to get excess, and whatever is left will go to the public,” he added.

With his principled track record in the judiciary and his call for a people-powered movement, Maraga’s entry into the 2027 presidential race signals a campaign built on transparency, accountability, and public trust.
