Mbadi calls for expulsion of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership to expel the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of going against the party leadership and giving views that conflict with those of ODM party leader Oburu Oginga.

‎‎Speaking during a funds drive at Kisaku Primary School in Suba South, Mbadi, a former ODM national chairman, said Sifuna could not continue holding office while advancing positions that differ from those of the party leader.

He argued that Sifuna’s exit would not have any negative impact on the party.

‎‎He said Sifuna does not even know where the registration certificate of ODM is. “If he has seen it, let him take a photo and post it on WhatsApp,” said Mbadi.

‎‎He noted that this was a critical moment for the party and insisted that those opposing the ODM position on the broad-based government should consider leaving for the sake of party unity.

The CS maintained that ODM would remain solid, just as Raila Odinga left it and urged members to remain steadfast behind Oburu Oginga.

‎‎The remarks come amid growing divisions within ODM over whether the party should support President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

While some leaders say Raila Odinga endorsed cooperation with the government, others insist the party should distance itself from UDA.

‎‎In January, the ODM Central Management Committee resolved to continue supporting the President.

Mbadi reiterated that ODM needed cohesion, not conflicting voices from its leadership.
