Michael Jackson’s socks sells for over Ksh.1 million in France

A single glittery sock worn by the late pop star Michael Jackson at a 1997 concert in France has sold for more than Ksh. 1 million in an auction in France on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

According to the auctioneer, the glitter-covered sock was discovered by a technician after the ‘Billie Jean’ hitmaker performed in the southern city of Nimes.

The sock was carefully preserved for 28 years in a frame and was finally put up for sale in the same city.

“It really is an exceptional object – even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,” Ms Illy said.

Michael Jackson’s clothing, especially those worn during iconic performances, has sold for large sums, following his death in 2009.

A Chinese gaming resort bought a glittery glove he wore when he performed his first “moonwalk” dance in 1983 for Ksh. 44.9 million.

A hat he wore just before that performance sold for more than Ksh. 10 million in Paris in 2023.

The same year, a black and white leather jacket he wore in a 1980s Pepsi advert sold for Ksh.43 million, and in 2011, the contents of the house he lived in with his three children before his death sold for around Ksh. 129 million at an auction.

The sale included items such as the rug beneath his deathbed, which sold for more than Ksh. 2.5 million.
