Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been decorated with three prestigious international awards during the 3rd Edition of the UNIPGC Global Leadership Investment Summit and Peace Awards (GLISPA), held at the House of Lords, British Parliament, London.
Sonko, who graced the summit as both a keynote speaker and award recipient, was celebrated for his illustrious political career, transformational leadership, and lasting contributions to humanitarian and social development.
The American University of Peace and Governance (AUPG, USA) awarded Sonko an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Governance, recognizing his outstanding achievements in sustainable humanitarian and social work, as well as his significant contribution to sustainable development and management.
In addition, the UNIPGC Supreme Council bestowed on him the Leadership Excellence Award, celebrating his transformational leadership attributes, patriotism, and efforts in prioritizing peaceful co-existence and promoting good governance.
The honors were capped by the Leadership Excellence and Distinguished Personality Award, presented at the House of Lords in recognition of his dedication to sustainable peace, co-existence, and governance excellence.
The awards were presented under the auspices of the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) in partnership with the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) and the American University of Peace and Governance.
During the summit, Sonko delivered an address at the Joint Institutional Panel Session, where he underscored the need for inclusive governance, peace, and sustainable development across Africa and beyond.
“True leadership is not measured by titles or positions, but by the impact we make on humanity,” Sonko told the gathering at the historic House of Lords.
He further reflected on his philosophy of service, noting: “Leadership without compassion is incomplete. Throughout my years in public service, I have sought to go beyond policies and politics to touch lives in tangible ways.”
Sonko concluded his remarks with a call to action for global leaders: “Let us invest in people, nurture compassion, and build a more peaceful and inclusive world.”
The 2025 GLISPA summit brought together world leaders, policy experts, and distinguished personalities to deliberate on themes of public service governance, peace-building, and sustainable development.
In his acceptance speech, Sonko dedicated the honors to the resilience and aspirations of the Kenyan people, affirming his commitment to continue championing the cause of the less fortunate, promoting social transformation, and upholding good governance.
