The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has announced a public auction of cast vehicles, equipment, and general stores, offering interested buyers a chance to acquire items on an ‘as-is-where-is’ basis.
According to the MOD, viewing of the vehicles, equipment, and stores will be conducted on working days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding public holidays, starting 16 March 2026.
Interested individuals can access catalogues containing full item details at MOD offices located at Ulinzi House main gate (Lenana Road), 23 OCC Nakuru, 43 OCC Nanyuki, KNB Mtongwe, DEFOD Kahawa, and 63 OCC Garissa.
Acquiring a catalogue requires a non-refundable fee of KSh 1,000, while interested bidders must pay a refundable bid number deposit of KSh 50,000 for vehicles and KSh 30,000 for equipment and stores. Payments must be made in cash before the last viewing day.
Each bid number will be valid for one lot only, and bidders must present the original catalogue and receipts for both the catalogue and deposit during the auction.
Bidding and payment rules
Successful bidders are required to pay a 25% deposit during the bidding session, with the balance due within 14 days. Failure to meet the payment terms will lead to cancellation of the award and forfeiture of the deposit.
Unsuccessful bidders will be refunded their bid deposits upon presentation of original receipts. The deposit paid by successful bidders will be deducted from the final bid price, with the remainder payable within the stipulated period.
Purchased items must be collected within 30 days of full payment to avoid storage charges of 1% of the bid per day.
Items uncollected after three months will be forfeited, including all funds paid. Buyers are responsible for duty, VAT, and other charges, and must obtain clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) before collection.
Vehicles acquired from the auction must be repainted in non-military colors and registered immediately to avoid impoundment.
Meanwhile the MOD states that they reserves the right to reject bids below the reserve price without providing reasons.
