Mount Kenya University has successfully held its third School of Business and Economics (SBE) Symposium at the Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre, drawing over 3,000 participants from across the country.
The event brought together students, entrepreneurs, academic leaders, and industry stakeholders from campuses in Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret, Machakos, Meru, Mombasa, and Thika, creating a dynamic forum for discussions on entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital transformation.
Speaking at the symposium, Vice-Chancellor Deogratius Jaganyi highlighted the urgent need for businesses and graduates to adapt to technological changes.
“We are witnessing a period of rapid technological transformation where emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, automation, and digital platforms are fundamentally reshaping how businesses operate and compete,” he said.

He emphasized that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) remain vital to economic growth, adding that collaboration between universities and industry is key to equipping entrepreneurs with relevant digital skills.
A major highlight of the event was the recognition of entrepreneurs who completed a digital marketing training programme organized by the School of Business and Economics. According to Mercyline Kamande, the initiative focuses on practical skills.
“The Digital Marketing Masterclass is designed to empower entrepreneurs with practical skills that help them strengthen their online presence, expand their markets, and improve the performance of their businesses,” she noted.
Dean Phelista Njeru reiterated the university’s commitment to enterprise development, stating that training programmes are designed to equip SME leaders with competencies in areas such as e-commerce, data analytics, and cybersecurity.

The symposium also featured exhibitions and networking sessions, offering students and entrepreneurs opportunities to engage with industry players and explore emerging business trends.
Now in its third edition, the forum continues to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while promoting innovation and enterprise development in Kenya.
