Kenyan ticketing platform Mookh Africa who are also the official 2024 Chan tickets vendor have apologized to fans after their website, tasked with selling the much anticipated Kenya vs Madagascar quarter-final clash of African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024), crashed during the much-anticipated ticket sales.
The crash occurred shortly after sales went live at about 12 p.m., they company has pointed an accusing finger to automated bots which they say overwhelmed the System.
This surge prevented genuine fans from securing tickets as intended, causing frustration among thousands of users who were eager to secure entry to a major upcoming event.
A knockout match between Kenya and Madagascar, set to take place on Friday, August 22 at 17:00 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
In an official statement shared on Tuesday on their instagram page, Mookh acknowledged the disruption and admitted that many fans were left disappointed.
“We know how important it is for you to have a fair chance at getting tickets, and we’ve heard your frustration loud and clear,” the statement read.
The company explained that its technical team is working urgently to resolve the issue and introduce safeguards to block bots from manipulating the process.
“Our team is actively working to stop this so that tickets go to fans, not bots,” the company assured.
Alongside the official apology, Mookh also posted a message on its social media platforms with a caption directed at fans.
The post read: “MaFANS!!! Poleni … our team is working hard to resolve this.”
“Tickets will be back on sale soon.”
The caption, written in a mix of English and Kiswahili, was aimed at calming fans while reinforcing the company’s commitment to fairness in the ticketing process.
The downtime of the ticketing site has drawn attention to the growing challenge of bots in the global entertainment and sports industries.
Automated purchases often result in tickets being resold at inflated prices, leaving genuine fans sidelined.
Despite the setback, Mookh expressed gratitude for the patience and support shown by fans, promising that sales would resume soon.
“Thank you for your patience and for standing by us. Tickets will be back on sale very soon,” the statement concluded.
