Kenya’s middle-distance queen Mary Moraa is set to light up the track at the Stockholm Diamond League this Sunday, June 15, as she returns to the prestigious circuit for the first time this season.
The reigning world 800m champion will headline a competitive women’s two-lap field in what promises to be a thrilling showdown in the Swedish capital.
Moraa, who also claimed bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, returns to Stockholm in a bid to maintain her dominance ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships set for September in Tokyo.
Her last Diamond League appearance was at the 2024 finals in Brussels, where she stormed to victory in 1:56.56 her second career title after her maiden win in Zurich in 2022.
Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the former world under-20 champion, will also take to the track in the men’s 800m. Wanyonyi is keen to bounce back from a third-place finish at the Rabat Diamond League, where he clocked 1:43.37 behind Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela (1:42.70) and Great Britain’s Max Burgin (1:43.34).
Another Kenyan joining Wanyonyi in the men’s 800m is seasoned campaigner Wycliffe Kinyamal, a 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
The women’s 3000m race will feature Caroline Nyaga, currently ranked 14th in the world, as she looks to assert her presence against the likes of Uganda’s Sarah Chelangat and Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu among others.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 5000m, Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi, ranked 21 globally, and Denis Kipkoech will fly the Kenyan flag.
The 2025 Diamond League shifts to Paris on June 20 after Stockholm.
