Morocco and UK sign strategic MoU to boost 2030 FIFA World Cup preparations

Morocco and the United Kingdom have signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The agreement, signed at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé near Rabat, focuses on key areas such as sports infrastructure, transport systems, and economic development.

The MoU was inked by Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, and the UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both governments, highlighting the strategic importance of the partnership.

David Lammy described the agreement as part of London’s broader global engagement strategy, stating, “Growth and prosperity will underpin our relationship with Morocco and beyond, helping forge new opportunities at home and abroad.” He emphasized the UK’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s vision of leveraging sports as a catalyst for national development and international cooperation.

The joint initiative will cover a wide range of activities, including stadium construction, transport logistics, event management, and other related sectors.

By laying the groundwork years ahead of the tournament, both countries aim to ensure the 2030 World Cup is not just a sporting spectacle but also a driver of long-term economic and social benefits.

For Morocco, the partnership aligns with its broader strategy to use sports as a vehicle for development and global engagement.

The 2030 World Cup, to be co-hosted with Spain and Portugal—and with select matches in Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina to mark the tournament’s centenary—presents a unique opportunity to showcase this vision on the world stage.
