Morocco made history on Wednesday night by winning the first-ever Women’s Africa Futsal Cup of Nations, defeating Tanzania 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
In front of a passionate home crowd, the Lionesses of the Atlas overcame a two-goal deficit, with Jasmine Demraoui scoring the decisive goal in the final minute of regulation time.
Tanzania stunned the hosts early, pressing high and capitalizing on defensive errors. Anastazia Katunzi opened the scoring in the 4th minute, and Jamila Rajabu doubled the lead in the 16th, finishing off a swift counter-attack.
Morocco responded just before half-time, as Doha El Madani converted a penalty to reduce the deficit and shift the momentum2.
The second half saw Morocco return with renewed energy, and Drissia Korrych equalized in the 34th minute with a composed finish from a set piece.
As the match neared its conclusion, both teams pressed for a winner, but it was Morocco’s Demraoui who found space in the final seconds to fire home the winner, sparking wild celebrations in Rabat.
The victory not only secured Morocco’s maiden continental futsal title but also booked their place at the first FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, set for the Philippines later this year.
Tanzania, as valiant finalists, also qualified for the global tournament.
Individual accolades went to Morocco’s Jasmine Demraoui (Best Player), Doha El Madani (Top Scorer, 5 goals), and Tanzania’s Nassra Abbas (Best Goalkeeper). Namibia received the Fair Play Award.
Earlier in the day, Cameroon claimed third place with a 4-1 win over Angola.
