Mother counts losses after house vandalised in Kakamega during Sifuna’s rally

A mother of two in Kakamega County is counting losses after her house was vandalised by a group of people following chaos that erupted during the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi rally held at Amalemba Grounds.

Faith Shikokoti says the attackers stormed her home alleging that a suspected goon who had thrown a teargas canister at the rally had taken refuge inside her house.

According to Shikokoti, the group destroyed household items, broke windows and doors, and left her home extensively damaged.

Recounting the ordeal, she says she and her children were forced to spend the night in the cold after their house was left exposed following the attack.

Shikokoti, whose home is located next to Amalemba grounds where the rally took place, is now appealing to political organizers to hold public gatherings away from residential areas to prevent innocent families from suffering during such incidents.

She has since reported the matter to the police and hopes authorities will investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

The incident comes amid reports of unrest and injuries reported during and after the political rally.
