Ms. Jocinta Anyango, the mother of Kennedy Onyango, who was killed in July 2024 during the anti-Government protests in Ongata Rongai, has recalled how president William Ruto has not fulfilled his promise of supporting the family and ensuring justice is served.

Speaking on Sunday June 22, 2025, Anyango recalled how Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi called her in July 2024, telling her that President William Ruto wanted to talk to her. 

She talked to the President via phone at that time, as the Head of State promised to help her.

“I talked to President Ruto, he assured me of justice, but it’s been 1 year and nothing,” said the mother of Kennedy Onyango, a 12-year-old boy who was killed during anti-government protests in Rongai.

In addition, she urged the Government to act and ensure justice prevails.

Kennedy was shot dead by the police, yet he was not even part of the demonstrators, according to his mother. The mother explained that Kennedy had gone to borrow a book on that day, before his life was cut short.

“He was 12, was a good artist, and then police bullets ended his life,” the mother said.

Kennedy was in grade 8, at a Junior Secondary school in Ongata Rongai during the tragedy. His favourite hobby was drawing and was very passionate about art. 

“The boy was my third child, he was my everything. That day before he was killed, he had started to draw a mosque and he had promised to finish the drawing before selling it to Muslims to earn money for paying rent,” said Anyango.

She emphasized that Kennedy was a good performer in class, and they had just finished the exams shortly before he was killed. 

She now says her only hope is God, as she called on the Church to continue praying for her.

She explained that she has two children who have sickle cell anemia, and their health has been a tough challenge to her.
