MP Ndindi Nyoro reassigned in parliamentary shake-up

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro, once a formidable voice and close ally of President William Ruto within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, has been removed from the powerful House Budget and Appropriations Committee.

The move, confirmed today, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, sees him reassigned to the less influential Committee on Migration, marking a significant shift in his political trajectory.

Nyoro had notably chaired the Budget Committee for over two years, a committee deemed crucial for its oversight on national expenditure and resource allocation.

His replacement by Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo signals a change in the UDA’s parliamentary leadership matrix.

This latest development follows an earlier instance where Nyoro was ousted from the chairmanship of the same committee, with Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi assuming that role.

While no official reason has been cited for the changes, parliamentary sources suggest that Nyoro’s neutral stance during the controversial 2024 impeachment vote of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may have played a role in his perceived sidelining.

Unlike many of his UDA colleagues, Nyoro abstained from voting, an act some within the party reportedly viewed as disloyal. Furthermore, recent instances of Nyoro openly criticizing government policies are also believed to have contributed to this decision.

The reshuffle extended beyond Nyoro, affecting several other House committees. Lamu West MP Stanley Muthama was replaced by Njoro MP Charity Kathambi in the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation.

Joyce Bensouda was appointed to the same committee, filling the vacancy left by the late Charles Ong’ondo Were.

Changes also occurred in the Departmental Committee on Labour, Regional Development, Tourism and Wildlife, and Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, reflecting a broader strategic realignment within Parliament.
