MP Otiende Amollo threatens to table motion of barring Gachagua from public office

Rarieda Member of Parliament (MP) Otiende Amollo has threatened to table a motion to ban the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from contesting for public office in Kenya, ever again.

Speaking on Sunday June 8, 2025, during a funds drive in Rongo, the MP accused Gachagua of spreading divisive, ethnic politics, stating that the former Deputy President never learned his lesson following his impeachment in 2024.

“Every day you speak, we realize that you never learned your lesson. We want to remind you that we impeached you under Article 75 of the Constitution. We never went far enough; we only impeached you,” said Amollo.

The legislator argued that Parliament could now apply a section of the constitution that would bar Gachagua from seeking any electoral position.

“If you continue speaking divisive language, we will come back for a special motion under article 75 (3), which declares that anyone removed from office under article 75 cannot vie for office in life. Do not think that there are no consequences. There will be, if you continue with divisive language, “added the MP.

Amollo joins several other leaders who are in support of the broad-based government, who accuse Gachagua of spreading ethnic division.

Meanwhile, former DP has been on a charm offensive to de-popularize his former boss, President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government altogether.
