The Kibera High Court in Nairobi has denied bond to three suspects linked to the murder of MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.
In a ruling made on Wednesday, June 4, Justice Diana Mochache denied the suspects’ bond after one of the suspects threatened to kill a prosecutor who was handling the case.
“The court heard that when the court had taken a break for the judge to give directions, one of the suspects, Ebel Ochieng Alias Dave Calo, reached out to the court orderly officer and inquired who the prosecutor was and threatened to kill him for opposing them to be granted bail,” the ODPP reports.
The court directed that the suspects — William Imoli Shigali, Edwin Odoury Odhiambo, and Ebel Ochieng — be remanded at Nairobi Industrial Remand pending mental assessment.
Separately, two more suspects appeared before the Milimani High Court to answer to charges of murder contrary to section 204 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution team, led by Ms. Jacinta Nyamosi, Evelyne Onunga, Allen Mulama, and Millicent Kigira, made an application before Hon. Lady Justice M. Muigai to defer the plea pending a mental assessment of the suspect.
The two suspects, Isaac Kuria, alias Kush, and Allan Omondi Ogola, will be held at Kamiti Prison pending mental assessment.
The case is scheduled for further mention for direction on 18th June 2025.
The court also directed that all the suspects be taken to Mathari Hospital for mental assessment.
The suspects, jointly with others not before the court, are alleged to have murdered Hon. Were on the night of April 30, 2025, at around 7:40 p.m.
The late MP was shot dead at the City Mortuary Roundabout along Ngong Road in Kilimani Sub-County, within Nairobi County.
