Members of Parliament on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, paid glowing tributes to Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, who perished in a grisly plane crash on February 28.
Lawmakers described Ngeno as a courageous leader who stood firmly for social justice.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro said the late legislator would be remembered for his bold leadership.
“A lot will be said about Hon Johana Ngeno but one thing stands out and that is his courage and his stand for social justice,” Osoro stated.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah strongly condemned what he termed as attempts to politicise Ngeno’s death, accusing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of making careless remarks at a rally in Nyahururu.

“It is unfair for any one of us who purports to be a leader to be using the death of any Kenyan for political gain.
It is sad that the family of Ngeno had to learn of the passing on of their kin from a careless statement made by a leader at a political rally in Nyahururu.
It is shameful. Shame on you, that you should use the death of one of us to do cheap ethnic based politics,” Ichung’wah said.
He concluded, “May the souls of our departed colleague and the five other passengers rest in eternal peace.”
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula described Ngeno as a leader who nurtured growth.
“He believed and invested in leadership growth,” Wetang’ula said.
MPs also honoured the pilot, Captain Were, recalling his professionalism and warmth.
Buuri MP Rindikiri Mugambi said, “We have lost other strong people, particularly Captain Were, who was known by everybody in this country.
I eulogise them and say the almighty God stand with the grieving families.”Molo MP Kuria Kimani added.
“Rubani Were pia mimi amewahi kunibeba kwa muda wa mwezi moja uliopita.”Wetang’ula revealed the pilot had flown him shortly before the tragedy.
“In fact Captain Were flew me with Aaron Cheruiyot and Faruk Kibet two weeks ago from Narok to Kakamega and back to Nairobi,” he stated.
Also among the victims was photojournalist Nick Kosgey from Bomet County who’s set to buried on Saturday 7th March 2026, high school teacher Carlos Keter from Emurua Dikirr, and Narok County government employee Wycliffe Rono.
The House observed a moment of silence in honour of the departed as leaders called for unity and restraint during the mourning period.
