A major breakthrough in the fight against crime was achieved in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, after police arrested a suspected member of a notorious gang linked to robbery and drug trafficking.
The arrest followed a public tip-off regarding a three-man gang that had been reportedly terrorising residents around the Biashara Street area. Officers from Mtwapa Police Station responded swiftly and launched a well-coordinated sting operation near Bemu Guest House, where they intercepted the suspects and managed to arrest one of them.
During the arrest, the suspect was found carrying a backpack loaded with suspicious items.
“Upon searching him, officers recovered a backpack containing three smartphones, suspected to be stolen, seven and a half large rolls of green dry plant material, suspected to be cannabis, a kitchen knife, and a taser,” the police confirmed.
The suspect is being held at Mtwapa Police Station, where he awaits arraignment in court. Police confirmed that all recovered items are being held securely as part of the investigation.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the two remaining gang members.
“Police are following crucial leads and are in hot pursuit of the two remaining suspects,” the statement added.
