The National Police Service has announced the rollout of a large-scale multi-agency security operation targeting rising cases of banditry and cattle rustling across parts of Meru, Isiolo, Samburu, and Laikipia counties.
In a press release issued on March 21, 2026, the police noted that recent incidents have led to loss of lives, theft of livestock, and injuries in affected regions.
Authorities described the situation as unacceptable, stressing the urgent need for decisive action. “This is totally unacceptable and must be eradicated,” the statement read.
According to the service, the coordinated operation brings together various security units with a clear mandate to restore stability.
The mission will focus on recovering stolen livestock, seizing illegal firearms and ammunition, and apprehending those behind the criminal activities, including their financial backers.
The targeted zones include parts of Meru County, Isiolo County, Samburu County, and Laikipia County, with specific attention on areas such as Mukogondo Forest and surrounding locations.
The operation is backed by a significant deployment of personnel, reinforced with aerial support to enhance surveillance and response.

Residents in the affected areas have been urged to cooperate fully with security agencies by sharing information that could aid the crackdown.
“Residents are urged to offer their maximum co-operation and ensure that banditry and related forms of criminality are brought to an end,” the statement emphasized.
Members of the public have also been encouraged to report any useful intelligence through official police channels, including emergency numbers and anonymous reporting platforms.
