Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Grace Nduta Wairimu, Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyenyaini ward, Murang’a County, in connection with what authorities describe as a staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.
The arrest, confirmed in an official statement by the National Police Service, follows days of speculation and social media reports about the MP’s alleged abduction.
Police now say the incident was orchestrated for political reasons, with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja dismissing the abduction claims as “political theatrics”.
Investigators revealed that a Subaru Forester, allegedly used to block Koimburi’s car before the purported abduction, was traced to a close political ally of the MP.
Surveillance and evidence indicate that, contrary to her claims of attending church services in Kangema, Nduta was at Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Koimburi on the night of May 25.
Authorities further noted inconsistencies in the MP’s account, including the absence of any physical evidence at the alleged abduction site and the fact that Koimburi was driven to hospital in his own vehicle. Police say he has declined to record a statement or cooperate with the investigation
The DCI is continuing to probe the motive behind the incident, with more arrests expected as they analyze communications between suspects and associates.
