The construction of Mwache Dam in Kwale County is nearing completion, marking a major milestone in Kenya’s efforts to enhance water supply, food security, and climate resilience at the coastal region.
This is as a result of the efforts by the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir.
PS Korir has been recognised for his efforts to restore dignity and stable water supply to the residents of Kwale and other coastal counties.

The Water PS was recognized by National Construction Authority (NCA) for spearheading the multi-million dollar project, which has reached its final stages, with key civil works, including the dam wall, spillway, and intake structures.
Korir emphasized that he is closely monitoring compliance with construction standards, safety protocols, and quality assurance to ensure the project meets international benchmarks.

Once fully operational, Mwache Dam is expected to provide over 186 million cubic metres of water, benefiting Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi counties, for irrigation and domestic use.
Meanwhile, NCA has emphasized that such mega projects demonstrate the importance of professionalism, compliance, and sustainable engineering in driving Kenya’s infrastructure development.
