Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura is now urging all leaders to stop misleading Kenyans in matters concerning the Kenya Kwanza Government programmes.
Mwaura’s sentiments come after the Executive Director of The Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), Diana Gichengo, outlined in a radio interview that the office of the spokesperson was allocated KSh36 billion for the subsistence budget at a time when Kenyans are decrying the harsh economic times.
“This year, you have decided the budget has gone up, but the Spokesperson needs to go on trips,” Gichengo said, her statement triggering a response from the convener of the said office.
Mwaura urged that leaders should not mislead Kenyans through miscommunication without fact-checking, as it is sensational and divisive. He also added that public participation is underway to help people give their views on the Financial Budget 2025/2025.
“You cannot go to the media and lie that my office has been allocated KSh36 billion,” Mwaura said, adding, “the budget of my office is not even KSh100 million, but because you’re posturing for dollars and want to be sensational and that’s why I asked for a right of reply and they didn’t give me.”
Furthermore, Mwaura clarified that the government advisors do not earn KSh24 billion as Gichengo claimed, seeking accountability for her figures. “How do you tell Kenyans that the budget of government advisors is KSh24 billion? I presume that is sensational.”
Mwaura also assured Kenyans that there will be no empathy for anyone who will be found inciting people for their own selfish reasons. “We will not sit watching the country going astray; anyone found guilty of incitement, whether on social media or mainstream, will be apprehended.”
