For many Mwihoko residents in Githurai 45, Kiambu County, memories of the tragic plane crash that occurred in the area five months ago remain painfully fresh.
The accident, which claimed six lives including Amref officers, left the community deeply traumatised, with the sound of passing aircraft still triggering fear and sorrow among locals.

In an effort to help the community heal and turn tragedy into hope, Amref has committed to constructing five new classrooms at Mutonya Primary School as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
Ruiru MP Simon King’ara noted that the school, which currently has a population of about 1,500 pupils, has been growing rapidly, with enrolment increasing by nearly 300 per cent.
He said the additional classrooms will significantly ease congestion and improve the learning environment.
The remarks were made during a groundbreaking ceremony that also saw residents benefit from free medical services and food distribution organised by Amref.

Parents and teachers welcomed the project, describing it as a timely intervention that will not only improve education standards but also help restore confidence and unity in a community still recovering from tragedy.
