‘My security withdrawn after I joined June 25 protests’ – Babu Owino

Embakasi East member of parliament (MP) Babu Owino has accused the Kenya Kwanza Government of allegedly withdrawing his official security following his participation in the June 25, 2025 protests.

In a statement on Thursday, Babu Owino maintained that the move is not only characterized by a desire for revenge but also a clear attack on democracy.

He stated that his decision to protest was not against the nation, but for its future. “I exercised my democratic right to protest peacefully against the actions of a government that is failing its citizens,” he declared.

According to Owino, the withdrawal of his security is a form of intimidation meant to silence dissent. “This is not just an attack on me—it is an attack on democracy itself. When elected representatives are punished for standing with the people, it is a sign of a government that fears accountability,” he said.

Despite the setback, the MP has vowed not to be silenced, urging Kenyans to remain vigilant, united, and unafraid.

“Kenyans are my security,” he affirmed. He also called on citizens to hold leaders accountable and to reject threats against those who fight for justice and truth.

His message was widely shared, with many Kenyans—including public figures like Wanjiku Stephens—offering support and encouragement.
