NACADA leads multi-agency crackdown in Mombasa, nets KSh 4 million Meth haul

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the National Police Service, has led a multi-agency operation in Mombasa that resulted in the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of narcotics and illicit alcohol worth millions of shillings.

During the crackdown targeting notorious drug dens in the mainland area, officers confiscated methamphetamine with an estimated street value of KSh 4 million, alongside a large consignment of counterfeit spirits and traditional brews suspected to be laced with industrial chemicals.

Authorities confirmed that one of the suspects arrested is a notorious counterfeit alcohol manufacturer who has been on the radar of investigators for years and is believed to be behind the production of lethal illicit brews linked to several deaths in the coastal region.

The operation is part of the renewed nationwide crackdown on drugs and substance abuse following a directive by William Ruto calling for a coordinated multi-agency approach combining strict law enforcement and public health interventions.

Officials say investigations are ongoing as detectives pursue the wider network behind the drug and illicit alcohol trade. The six suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court.
