NACADA raids illegal den in Kahawa West

Over 10,000 liters of deadly kangara were dumped into the sewers when a large illegal alcohol den in Nairobi’s Kahawa West was destroyed by a multi-agency security operation headed by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

The predawn raid in Soweto village was conducted in response to Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen’s order to launch a 100-day rapid results campaign to eradicate illegal brews nationwide.

NACADA’s enforcement unit, National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), and police officers began the operation at 5:00 a.m. in response to intelligence information. The brewers fled, leaving their supplies and machinery behind.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a massive brewing facility. The illicit establishment was permanently crippled when they burned 30 jerricans, each of which contained 20 liters of Chang’aa that was ready to be sold, as well as enormous boiling tanks and drums used to distill the toxic liquor.

By 8:30 a.m., the drill had been successfully completed with no casualties or injuries reported.

Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, the chief executive officer of NACADA, commended the mission’s success and emphasized the value of interagency cooperation.

“We thank the CS for his leadership. We now urge every Kenyan to be our eyes and ears. Share information with your local authorities or use our toll-free, 24-hour hotline, 1192. Together, we will reclaim our communities from this scourge.”
