Kenya’s basketball champions, Nairobi City Thunder, are entering the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Elite 16 on home soil with fresh energy, and renewed backing from M-KOPA Kenya.
The two sides have extended their partnership for the 2025/26 season, marking another milestone in a relationship that has helped power Thunder’s rise to the continental stage.
The extension comes just days before the Elite 16 tournament tips off in Nairobi. A moment that places Kenya firmly in Africa’s basketball spotlight.
“We’re deeply grateful for M-KOPA’s continued belief in Nairobi City Thunder and in the future of Kenyan basketball,” said Colin Rasmussen, CEO of Twende Elite / Thunder. “This partnership fuels our ambition to raise the standard of the game and create opportunities that extend beyond the court.”
For M-KOPA, the deal is more than corporate visibility. The company’s investment goes into supporting youth programs, talent development, and Thunder’s community projects — all part of a shared mission to empower through sport.
“Sport inspires, opens doors, and shows what’s possible,” said Martin Kingori, GM at M-KOPA Kenya. “We’re proud to stand with Thunder as they raise the bar for Kenyan basketball.”
The renewed partnership covers Thunder’s KNBL title defense and their Road to BAL campaign, which continues this month in Nairobi.
With home fans behind them, the reigning champions are out to make another statement — not just for Thunder, but for Kenyan basketball.
