The National Liberal Party (NLP) has made history by becoming the first African political party to join the International Alliance of Libertarian Parties (IALP), a global network founded in 2015 to coordinate libertarian movements across continents.  

IALP’s membership spans Europe and Latin America, with parties from countries such as France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Argentina already part of the alliance. 

NLP’s entry marks a significant expansion into Africa, underscoring the growing reach of libertarian ideals worldwide.  

“We are proud to welcome NLP into our extended family,” IALP said in its statement. “This partnership is about pushing the freedom agenda in Kenya and across Africa.”  

For NLP leader Augustus Muli, the recognition comes at a pivotal moment. 

With nearly 900,000 members drawn from party structures and his Anzauni clan base, Muli has emerged as a formidable force in Ukambani politics. 

His growing influence challenges the long-standing dominance of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who has been reluctant to share the regional stage.  

Analysts warn that any political misstep by Kalonzo could open the door for Muli to consolidate power, potentially positioning himself as a running mate in the 2027 presidential race. 

The strategic question now is whether Muli will continue to fight it out in opposition alongside Kalonzo or align with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.  

For IALP, however, the milestone is clear: Africa has entered the libertarian fold. And for Muli, the global recognition cements his rising profile, placing him not just in Ukambani’s political battles but on the international stage.
