Nairobi County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, has announced a comprehensive 48-hour action plan to address flooding in Nairobi, following a high-level multi-agency meeting at City Hall on 19th March 2026.
The Governor, who chaired the Third National Government-Nairobi City County Implementation Committee meeting, said the strategy outlines both immediate and medium term interventions aimed at mitigating the impact of heavy rains and restoring critical infrastructure.

Sakaja reveald that the response will prioritize the most affected areas through coordinated efforts involving multiple government agencies. Among the key measures outlined are dredging of the Nairobi rivers, clearing of the blocked culverts, and enforcement actions targeting elligal developments.
These includes, the removal of the structures built along riversides, ant the immediate evacuation of the buildings situated on water banks

The governor emphasized that the plan is already in action, with authorities moving swiftly to reduce flood crisis anfd protect residents. The intiative comes amid ongoing heavy rains that have disrupted transport and exposed vulnerabilities in the city’s drainage sysyems.
Sakaja called for cooperation from the public to support the efforts, noting that restoring order and preventing future flooding will require collective responsibility.
