Naivas Supermarket dismisses closure rumors: “No expired goods on our shelves”

Naivas Supermarket has firmly denied widespread rumors alleging the sale of expired products and the closure of its Nairobi branches by authorities. The supermarket chain has labeled the circulating claims as “false, misleading and potentially harmful.”

In a statement released Tuesday, Naivas clarified that no expired goods have been discovered in any of its outlets and that all branches across the country remain open and fully operational.

“We maintain stringent internal quality control and stock management systems across all our branches to ensure product safety and compliance with health regulations,” the statement read.

The supermarket emphasized that it complies with all standards set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities, rejecting claims of any regulatory shutdowns.

“These claims are not only untrue but also appear to be part of a malicious agenda,” the company noted, adding that it is pursuing legal advice and considering formal action against those behind the allegations.

Naivas also used the opportunity to underscore its zero-tolerance stance on unethical practices: “We have a very strict anti-bribery and corruption policy and will not submit to extortionary tactics.”

The supermarket is urging the public to verify information through its official communication channels and not to fall victim to social media misinformation.
