Naivasha Member of Parliament (MP) Jayne Kihara has lashed out at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, accusing him of unfairly targeting Pastor Dorcas Rigathi due to his frustrations with her husband, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during an interview on K24 TV on July 22, 2025, Kihara defended Pastor Dorcas terming Ichung’wa’s remarks as disrespectful and unnecessary.
“Why would you go for Pastor Dorcas just because you are frustrated with her husband?” she posed. ” She is the patron of the Pentecostal Pastors, and she brought the clergy to the president when her husband was the deputy. She prayed for the country seeking change, just like what we all expected.”
The vocal lawmaker accused the majority leader of stooping low in his political attacks, suggesting that his actions reflect personal bitterness. “You are becoming too cheap, and it shows your frustrations,” she said. ” Why do you drag her into all these?”
Kihara also advised Pastor Dorcas to remain calm and ignore the attacks, adding a cryptic spiritual warning: “Her tears that she cried in Karen Hospital will haunt them.”
She did not hold back in assessing President William Ruto’s leadership, describing him as a man of many faces. According to Kihara, while the President often appears spiritual and eloquent in quoting the Bible, his actions sometimes contradict his Christian persona.
“President William Ruto has got many sides,” she observed. “In some cases, you could think that we can ordain him as a bishop. The way he quotes the Bible is how a lawyer can quote the Constitution. But he has many other sides, unfortunately, not near God.”
She further questioned the President’s moral stance by referencing controversial recent remarks. “Would a pastor say, ‘shoot the youth on the leg’?” she asked, about a previous statement Ruto made that sparked backlash.
Kihara’s comments come just days after she was released on a bond of Ksh 50,000. She had been arrested over allegations of uttering remarks deemed to threaten peace and contravene Section 94(1) of the Penal Code, Cap 63 of the Laws of Kenya. The alleged incident occurred on July 8, 2025.
Her arrest and subsequent statements add another layer to the ongoing political tensions within the Kenya Kwanza alliance, as factions continue to take shape ahead of 2027.
