Tension briefly unfolded in Nyandarua County on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, during the requiem mass of the late David Kiaraho after Senator John Methu publicly challenged William Ruto over unfulfilled development promises.
The incident occurred as Methu addressed mourners at the event attended by several national and local leaders.
While speaking, the senator reminded the president of past commitments made to residents, insisting he was only holding the government accountable.
“Mheshimiwa William Ruto, bado mimi ndio John Methu. Sijabadilika, bado mimi ni Methu wa zamani,” he said.
Methu added that despite his respect for the president, he was not afraid to raise concerns affecting residents of the county.
“Nakuheshimu kama mzazi lakini nataka nikwambie sikuogopi,” he said, drawing mixed reactions from the crowd.
The Nyandarua County Senator cited several development pledges he said were made during previous visits by the president but are yet to be fulfilled.

“Mimi nataka nikueleze jambo moja pekee yake kama senator wa hapa,” he said before listing the projects.
“Sasa nikisema mheshimiwa Rais tulikuwa na wewe pale kwa Mama Mukami Kimathi ukatwambia barabara ya kutoka Kinamba kwenda Karangatha kwa haraka itaekwa lami na haijaekwa, nimepiga siasa gani?” Methu posed.
He further questioned delays in other projects.
“Nikikueleza tulikuwa na wewe Shamata ukatwambia barabara ya kutoka hapa Kariamu kwenda Kaka, kwenda Shamata itaekwa lami na haijaekwa, nimefanya siasa gani?” he asked.
Methu also mentioned a stadium project in Ol Kalou that he said had stalled.
“Nikisema mheshimiwa Rais ulikuwa hapa ukatwambia hii stadium ya Ol Kalou ndani ya miezi kumi itakuwa imemalizika, haijamalizika, nimefanya siasa gani?” he added.
The situation escalated when Methu appeared to challenge Kimani Ichung’wah over remarks he had made about former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
